Every three years, we tilt our philanthropic focus to prioritize international giving, allowing us to raise multi-year funding that builds capacity and fuels sustainable, strategic growth, helping them to address systemic issues and empower their communities in ways that will last decades—perhaps even generations.
East East Africa faces an historic and sustained drought, with 20 million people experiencing acute food and water insecurity and many more lacking access to basic healthcare, education, and job opportunity. Food prices are soaring due to failed harvests, economic challenges, and rising global markets. Meanwhile, climate change, deforestation, and poaching threaten the region's precious wildlife and ecosystems.
This comes at a time when media attention has shifted elsewhere, and we’ve seen a sharp decrease in funding for international giving in recent years. This translates to higher costs and less support precisely when local nonprofits need it most. Kenya faces significant hurdles but continues to push forward in addressing its environmental and social challenges, while striving for economic resilience and political stability.
In 2022, Brighton Jones teammates and clients raised over $500,000 to help our partners maintain critical services. This year, our goal is $1 million.
